There were multiple transmissions received in multiple different languages by the SETI like program. Identifying the languages was the first step (https://www.dcode.fr/symbols-ciphersarrow-up-right) followed by decoding what the message said. The message gave a crossword style clue as to the identity of someone within the realm the language is from.
